Post Graduate Work Permit

The post-graduation work permit (PGWP) allows students who have graduated from eligible schools to gain valuable Canadian work experience. Post-graduate work permits are open, meaning that graduates can work for any employer in any Canadian province.

Graduating from eligible schools with eligible programs of DLI make you eligible for a post-graduate work permit.

As of November 1, 2024, most post-graduate work permit applicants are required to meet minimum level of language ability to be eligible for post-graduate work permit. Those who graduated with Bachelor’s degree, Master’s Degree, Doctoral Degree or graduated from any other university program  must prove  English or French language skills with a minimum level of Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) 7 in English or Niveaux de competence linguistique canadiens (NCLC) 7 in French in all 4 language areas.

Other applicants may need to meet the field of study requirement to be eligible for post-graduate work permit.

However, every year there are many international students who mistakenly think that they will be eligible to get post-graduate work permit after graduating only to discover midway through their studies or after graduating that they cannot.  It is accordingly very important that all international students in Canada understand how the PGWP program works.
